Kolkata/Indore, [India]: In an industry often dominated by the young and the trendy, one remarkable woman stands as a testament to the fact that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing passion and making a difference. Meet Mrs. Vinita Motwani, the visionary founder behind Mashup.in, the renowned online store that has redefined the way we perceive and shop for boys’ clothing. This year, as the company celebrates its 31-year journey, we take a glimpse into the extraordinary story of a 61-year-old trailblazer who initiated a revolution in the fashion world when she was merely 30.
In 1992, when the fashion landscape predominantly catered to the needs of girls and women, Mrs. Vinita Motwani recognized a glaring gap in the market for boys’ clothing that exuded style, comfort, and individuality. Armed with a profound vision and an unwavering determination, she embarked on a journey that would not only transform her life but also redefine an entire industry.
Founder’s Choice Of Words:
“Back then, finding stylish and unique clothing options for boys was a real challenge,” Mrs. Vinita Motwani recalls. “I wanted to create a space where boys could express themselves through fashion, just as girls were able to. It was about empowering young minds and nurturing their self-confidence from an early age.”
What is even more noteworthy is, the persistence and a determined mindset to love and take care of kids just like her own twos. Now, no Taj Mahal was ever created by one person. It had to be teamwork. In this case, the biggest rock solid support that never weathered throughout the years was her husband who took care of the financial aspects of the company and is still the CFO for the enterprise. Being an established person, and then taking the time out to help your spouse has to be worthy of respect. Throughout the thick and thin, if there was one person to fuel the fire for Mrs. Vinita Motwani, it was Mr. Dilip Motwani. If there’s one couple that changes the narrative, “behind every successful man there’s a woman” it’s them. Here the narrative goes as, “Behind any successful woman, is her man.”
With sheer dedication and a deep understanding of the needs and preferences of young boys, Mrs. Vinita Motwani launched her first brand Badboys in 1992 and it has been a rollercoaster ride since then. What began as a modest endeavor quickly blossomed into another brand & thriving online store mashup.in that offered an extensive range of clothing that resonated with boys of all ages. From vibrant tees to trendy Cord-sets, Mashup has it all.
Why Mashup?
Women in commerce and trade were uncommon in the past, particularly in the clothing and garment industries. Her brands, bad boys and Mashup, are now sold in over 2000 multi-brand kids apparel retailers across India, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
She started with a staff of four and now employs 300 people, with half of them being women.
However, it wasn’t just the product range that set Mashup apart; it was the heart and soul Mrs. Vinita Motwani poured into her business. As a mother herself, she understood the value of quality, durability, and affordability. Each item that graced the virtual shelves of the stores was handpicked and curated with the utmost care, ensuring that boys would not only look their best but also feel comfortable and confident.
Over the years, Bad Boys & Mashup became more than just a brand; it became a community. Parents and children& retailers from across India alike resonated with Mrs. Vinita Motwani’s commitment to inclusivity and her dedication to fostering a sense of belonging. The store’s carefully crafted collections celebrated diversity, encouraged self-expression, and championed individuality, making it a go-to destination for families seeking more than just clothing.
As Mrs. Vinita Motwani celebrates her 61st birthday and the 30th anniversary of her company, she reflects on the journey that has been nothing short of extraordinary. “The path was not without its challenges, but every hurdle was an opportunity to learn and grow. I am immensely grateful for the support of our customers and the incredible team that has been with me through thick and thin,” she says with a smile.
Mashup’s Masterplan:
Mashup’s impact reaches far beyond the realm of fashion. With a commitment to sustainability & creating social impact Mrs. Vinita Motwani introduced social inclusion in the industry by giving women a better opportunity over males &upcycling all fabric waste ineco-friendly practices that have inspired change within the industry. From responsible sourcing of materials to minimizing waste, Mashup’s approach is a shining example of how fashion can coexist harmoniously with environmental consciousness.
Looking forward, Mrs. Vinita Motwani envisions an even more inclusive and innovative future for Mashup. “Age should never be a barrier to pursuing one’s dreams. I hope that my journey serves as an inspiration to others who may think it’s too late to start something new. With passion, determination, and a clear vision, anything is possible.”
As Mashup continues to evolve and leave an indelible mark on the fashion landscape, it stands as a living testament to the power of one woman’s vision and perseverance. Mrs. Vinita Motwani’s journey is a reminder that true innovation knows no age, and that the pursuit of passion is a lifelong endeavor that can transform not only industries but also lives.
