Redefining Innerwear for Kids: The Empowering Journey of Pratima, Founder of Tiaki
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

From a conscious mother to a purpose-driven entrepreneur, Pratima, founder of the up-and-coming kids apparel brand Tiaki, is leading a quiet revolution in the children’s clothing industry. Her journey is not one born out of business ambition, but out of deep maternal instinct, care, and a commitment to building a safer world for the next generation.

As a mother of two, Pratima found herself increasingly concerned about the unseen threats posed by synthetic fabrics, harsh chemicals, and toxins present in children’s clothing, especially innerwear. The idea for Tiaki took shape in her home, where the daily act of dressing her children became an awakening. Why, she wondered, should the layer that stays closest to a child’s skin, their innerwear, be overlooked?

Intention, Passion and Slow Fashion: How Ruhi is Building Suramyah

From Motherhood to Mission

Pratima’s enduring connection to her homeland enabled her to embark on a fascinating journey innovating children’s innerwear. Rooted in universal values of care and responsibility, Pratima’s entrepreneurial journey began with a question many parents ask, but very few act on: “Is this truly safe for my child?” That question led to extensive research, partnerships with ethical textile manufacturers, and ultimately, the birth of Tiaki, a name inspired by the Māori word meaning to care, to conserve, to protect.

With no prior background in fashion or retail, Pratima built the brand from the ground up, motivated by love and fueled by conviction. “Tiaki was never about launching another kidswear line,” she says. “It was about creating something meaningful, natural, and necessary.”

Tiaki: The First Layer That Truly Cares

Tiaki quickly stood out in the market for its singular focus: premium, organic innerwear for children. Each product is crafted from GOTS-certified organic cotton, using plant-based, non-toxic dyes. The result? Innerwear that is not only luxuriously soft and breathable but also hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin.

Unlike mass-produced synthetic options, Tiaki innerwear respects both skin health and environmental integrity. Tiaki has boxer briefs and singlets for boys and they also have camisoles and briefs for girls; each piece is thoughtfully designed to support growing bodies and protect delicate skin.

“Children wear innerwear almost 24/7,” Pratima explains. “We focus so much on what they wear outside, but we ignore what’s right against their skin. Tiaki brings that focus back, which is equally important.”

A Brand Rooted in Purpose, Not Profit

What sets Tiaki apart is not just the product, it’s the philosophy. Sustainability is not an afterthought. It’s the foundation. The brand minimises environmental impact through ethical sourcing, eco-friendly dyes, and waste-conscious production. Parents who choose Tiakiaren’t just buying clothes, they’re supporting a movement toward conscious parenting and clean living.

Over time, Tiaki has gained recognition not just among mindful parents but also within eco-conscious communities and pediatric wellness circles.

Looking Ahead: A Global Vision of Care

Today, Tiaki is expanding its reach, introducing its organic innerwear range to more countries, including India, where awareness around skin-friendly, sustainable clothing is on the rise. With a growing customer base, a loyal community, and unwavering values, Pratima remains grounded in her mission.

“I’m not here to chase trends,” she says. “I’m here to build trust, to offer peace of mind to parents, and comfort to every child who wears Tiaki; that’s the kind of business I want to build, intentionally rooted in real care.”

Empowering Parents, Protecting Childhood

Pratima’s journey is a testament to what’s possible when entrepreneurship is guided by empathy. Looking forward to bringing fun and comfort to young children across India, Pratima is set to change the world, for the better. In a world dominated by fast fashion and flashy packaging, Tiaki is a reminder that the quietest brands often speak the loudest truths about health, sustainability, and love.
