How we style and decorate our homes is influenced by interior design trends. A lot of designers concur that 2023 appears to be the year for sustainable design. Interior designers with a focus on sustainability are very careful when selecting decor materials that are kind to the Earth.
In a conversation with Anuradha Aggarwal, Founder of Studio Olives Cre, we spoke about various interior design trends for 2023. According to her, “Interiors have been embracing arcs and rounded curves for 2023 for a time now. Circular rugs, tulip and egg seats, and crescent sofas gradually occupied the spotlight. Soft contemporary is a broad term that covers a variety of styles, but it is distinguished by its quiet elegance, coziness, warmth, and mindful use of color, texture, and pattern. Expect sustainability to be a prominent aspect of interior inspiration in 2023, with natural materials and colors that are inspired by nature coming to the fore, in line with increased attention on climate.”
“Overall, 2023 will be a bold year. The hue to wear in the upcoming year will be ultramarine blue. It has a vibrant, deeply saturated, and luscious color”, she said.
For practicing architects and interior designers, recent times have proven to be a tremendous challenge. Initially, perhaps as a decline in work as people grappled with construction and other architectural projects coming to a complete standstill during the pandemic, and now, as time goes on, the need of envisioning new approaches to architecture. For young people interested in studying architecture, this heralds the start of something new and exciting as the Indian interior design market is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 7.40% during 2022-2027.
In context with the recent budget announcement, Anuradha Aggarwal emphasized on the outlay for PM Awas Yojana is being increased by 66% to over Rs 79,000 crores. She said, “It’s a big attempt to provide affordable houses to the people of the country. Now India’s growth outlook seems better than in the pre-pandemic years, and the Indian economy is prepared to grow at its potential in the medium term. With an aim to alleviate stress for small businesses, a Rs 9,000-crore corpus for a revamped credit guarantee scheme will add new growth to the MSME.”
“For women entrepreneurs, the government would promote general artisans through components such as financial support, skill training, modern green technology, brand promotion, and linkage with local and global markets,” she further added.
Talking about the challenges as a woman in the business, she thinks that there is a lack of role models and an absence of the tradition of mentoring. Women architects and designers never gather critical mass and broader issues never get documented. I am just scratching the surface, but the idea is to address such concerns.
